The Heat have really taken control of this series, and they certainly look like the best side right now in the league. After all of this is said and done, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh have combined to make up a fantastic defense, and after a season chock full of losing out to some of the best teams in the league over and over again, it is Miami that is still in the best of shape, while the rest of those teams are either out of the playoffs or in some serious trouble. The Heat have allowed an average of just 85.8 points per game to the C’s in the last four games of this series dating back to February, and they have won three in a row now both SU and ATS, including the one that earned home court advantage in this juncture of the playoffs. The only bugaboo is that it is has been quite some time since Head Coach Erik Spoelstra and company have won a game in Beantown, but the good news is that Miami has earned the right to not have to do that to win this series. Instead, all of the pressure is squarely on the back on Boston to hold serve twice on its home court to have virtually any chance of extending this series too much further.

The Celts are on the ropes for sure, and in spite of the fact that their injury report is about eight miles long, Head Coach Doc Rivers remains cool, calm, and collected about the whole situation. Rajon Rondo is battling a back injury, Ray Allen a chest problem, and Paul Pierce and Achilles issue, but we know that all three of these men are going to be playing, basically dead or alive. The questions are the O’Neal boys. Jermaine O’Neal has essentially had chronic issues of some kind or another this whole season, and now, it is his back that is acting up that held him to just 19 minutes in Game 2′s defeat. Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t played in a game since April 3rd, and that was his only game in the lineup since February 1st (and for the record, he has only played in five games since January 14th!). The Big Shaqtus did average 9.2 points per game when he was in the lineup this year, but we look at his return as a way to make a team that was already old and decrepit even more old and decrepit.
We could see the Celtics winning this game and making this a series, but it really feels like it would be a bit of a miracle if that were to actually happen. The Heat have been playing the better ball of these two teams for sure, and we think that it’ll show again in the form of a mild upset on Saturday night to give Miami a commanding 3-0 series lead on the defending Eastern Conference champs.

NBA Playoffs Picks: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies Game 3 Live

The Oklahoma City Thunder haven’t won a heck of a lot of road games in the playoffs since moving from Seattle (in fact, the number is 1), but on Saturday night, they’ll be looking to up that number against a team that hasn’t won a heck of a lot of NBA playoffs betting battles at home in their lives either (in fact, the number is 3) in the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Thunder seemingly woke up from their Game 1 slumber and ended up putting a licking on the Grizz right off the bat in Game 2. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, both of which were given bad raps after an iffy first game of this series, came out with a lot more gusto in a game that looked a lot more like a traditional up and down OKC game with a lot less physicality. Durant score 26 points and had five boards, while Westbrook had 24 points and six assists. The real difference makers came off of the bench on this night though, as James Harden and Eric Maynor had 21 and 15 points respectively. Harden was a pillar at the line, going 11-of-11. Maybe was the three point assassin, coming up with three triples and a total of 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. Nick Collison also had seven points and seven rebounds. Serge Ibaka battled foul trouble the whole night and ended with eight points and six rebounds. Nazr Mohammad and Kendrick Perkins were both relatively unseen with a combined two points and eight rebounds.
The Grizzlies have to be concerned about the way that Game 2 panned out. OKC rumbled to 17 fast break points and had 38 points in the paint, numbers which could be very, very bad for their future in this series. The defense allowed the Thunder to shoot 52.8 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from downtown. On the other side of the court though, Memphis only shot 44.3 percent overall. If you take away the three long range shots that Mike Conley Jr. knocked down, the rest of the team only went 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. The good news is that Marc Gasol had another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Conley looked great as well, going 10-of-15 from the field for 24 points and eight assists. The big man that was missing in action was Zach Randolph. Z-Bo went absolutely bananas in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, but for as great as he was in Game 1, he was that dreadful in Game 2. Randolph shot 2-of-13 from the field and had just 15 points and nine rebounds. OJ Mayo and Darrell Arthur came off of the bench to have respectable games, scoring 16 points and nine points respectively.

On Friday, we saw the Chicago Bulls really assert themselves as the better team in their second round series against the Atlanta Hawks. As we’ve said time and time again for the Hawks, the key is going to be getting off to a good start. In Game 1, Atlanta opened up on a 9-0 run and never really looked back. In Game 2, it was down 25-19 after one quarter and 48-37 at halftime, and it never really seriously posted a tremendous threat beyond that. The really bad news though, is just how bad this team was outside of Jeff Teague on Wednesday night. Teague, filling in for the injured Kirk Hinrich, definitely proved his worth, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and accounting for a team high 21 points. The rest of the team shot just 19-of-63 from the floor, a dreadful 29.7 percent. Jamal Crawford was one of the bigger offenders, going just 2-of-10 off the bench and scoring just 11 of the bench’s 13 total points in the game, while Al Horford wasn’t much better at 3-of-12 shooting. The only positive that Horford can say is that he did have six assists and 14 rebound to show for his work. Getting 16 points out of Joe Johnson just wasn’t enough in a game in which one of the team’s top stars wasn’t in the fold. Hinrich will once again miss Game 3 with his hamstring injury, giving more time once again to Teague.
It’s not like Chicago really did anything all that remarkable offensively in Game 2. It only shot 39.3 percent from the floor and 22.7 percent from beyond the arc. The only notable number that stands out on the page from a scoring perspective was the 25 points put up by Derrick Rose, but then again, we’ve come to expect that sort of performance from the league’s newly crowned MVP. Joakim Noah scored 19 points, while Luol Deng had 14, but no one else scored more than eight points. Kyle Korver had his worst shooting night of the playoffs, going 1-of-9 from the floor and 1-of-5 from beyond the arc, while Carlos Boozer made just four of his 12 shots. The real difference though, came on the glass. The Bulls absolutely cleaned up, grabbing 44 defensive rebounds, five more on the boards than the Hawks had in total. Chicago also had 14 offensive rebounds, seven of which came from Noah. The former Florida Gators had 14 rebounds, but Deng and Boozer both reached double digits as well. Rose had six rebounds and 10 helpers.
We are now at the point that the Bulls should be taking this series over. Home court advantage will be key for the Hawks, but missing Hinrich is going to hurt more than Head Coach Larry Drew probably wants to admit. Beat the NBA betting odds by taking the visitors on Friday night.

Dallas looked dead in the water, and it could’ve given up when it faced a 16 point deficit in the third quarter on Monday night, but it refused to lose. Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, and the crew were able to lead the charge on the way back, and maybe — just maybe — the whole playoff hex for Nowitzki is done with. Dirk scored 28 points and had 14 rebounds against some of the best bigs in the league, but he certainly wasn’t the only man contributing to the effort. Kidd had seven points, 11 assists, and five rebounds in a very “Jason Kidd” type of performance. Shawn Marion, Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic, and Terry all reached double digits in scoring as well. The basketball was moving well in the game, as there were 30 assists on 39 made baskets. Dallas didn’t get a ton of opportunities at the foul line, but it capitalized on nine of its 11 chances, and it hit 45.0 percent of its three point field goals. There were also only 11 turnovers in the game to speak of for the visitors.
Kobe Bryant sat on the bench for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. Andrew Bynum barely ever got off of the bench. Has Head Coach Phil Jackson lost his mind? We’re not ones to say that the Zen master is out of touch right now, but when your team has over twice as many offensive rebounds as your foe, shoots almost twice as many free throws, and holds a 16 point lead in the second half at home, it shouldn’t lose. The Lakers did really get good minutes out of Bryant in this game, but he only played just over 35 of them when push came to shove. Kobe scored 36 points and had five rebounds, but his telling stat was zero assists. Pau Gasol had seven helpers to lead the team, and he had 15 points and 11 rebounds to boot in his best all around game in the postseason. Bynum only had eight points and five rebounds, but Lamar Odom had a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. Matt Barnes and Shannon Brown also provide solid minutes off of the bench with a combined 10 points and six boards. Aside from Kobe, the rest of the team made just 22 shots for the game, and it only knocked down one of its 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
Something’s not right with the Lakers right now. We don’t doubt the fact that Bryant can lead this team to victory, but this is still a heck of a lot of points to be giving a great team no matter where the game is being played. We trust that the Mavs will hang again on Wednesday night.

No one gave the Atlanta Hawks even a half of a chance of beating the Orlando Magic in the first round of the playoffs, and the chance that they were given in the second round was even less. However, after stealing Game 1 at the United Center against the Chicago Bulls, the Hawks will be looking to fly high to a 2-0 series lead on the road on Wednesday night.
Atlanta’s key to this entire postseason has been about starting fast. The Hawks got off to a great start against the Magic by winning Game 1, and it carried them to a series victory. In the five games in that series in which Atlanta got off to at least a relatively decent start, it went 4-1. The one game that it didn’t, Orlando blew its doors off. Sure, the Bulls held the lead at one point in the third quarter, but the Hawks started off up 9-0 in the game, and they won the first quarter 28-18. Joe Johnson had an absolutely bananas game, shooting 12-of-18 from beyond the arc, including knocking down five triples without a miss. He ended the day with 34 points in 45 minutes on the hardwood. His cohort, Jamal Crawford scored 22 points off of the bench, continuing his amazing postseason (and in a contract year, no less!). The big time key though, was winning the rebounding battle, something that seemed absolutely impossible for an game at the start of this series. Shooting 51.3 percent from the field helped out a ton as well.
Head Coach Tom Thibodeau, a defensive mastermind, absolutely has to be frustrated with the amount of points that the Hawks ended up with in Game 1. His ‘D’, as noted, allowing over 50 percent of its shots against to be good, and the Bulls just weren’t dominating on the defensive glass like they normally are. Sure, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah combined for a healthy 23 boards, but the rest of the team only had 14, and Derrick Rose had nearly half of those. Rose did finish the day with 24 points, 10 assists, and five boards, but when push comes to shove, he needs to be better than that for Chicago to win this series. The good news is that the bench is still contributing, even though there aren’t a slew of minutes used up by the men not in the starting five. Kyle Korver knocked down three more long range shots to keep the Bulls in Game 1, and Ronnie Brewer and CJ Watson both had solid contributions as well. However, 44.6 percent shooting just isn’t going to get the job done, and Thibodeau doesn’t particularly want to see his team jacking up 83 shots over the course of a game, particularly in this series.

The No. 8 seed in the Western Conference is still proving to be incredibly stingy, as the Memphis Grizzlies were able to steal Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Now, the Oklahoma City Thunder have all of the pressure on them in the world for Game 2, and we’re armed and ready to make our NBA picks on this great duel in the Sooner State.
Did anyone really think that Z-Bo was ever going to be a star in the playoffs? Don’t get us wrong. Zach Randolph has really played well in his career, but he has never been known as the leader of a playoff team before. Now, he’s had himself two absolutely massive games in a row, one which closed out the San Antonio Spurs, the top team in the Western Conference, and one which has started the shock effect in Oklahoma City. Z-Bo shot 12-of-22 from the floor and 9-for-9 from the charity stripe, scoring 34 points to go with 10 boards in the Game 1 shocker of the Thunder. Marc Gasol had yet another double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Mike Conley had 15 points and seven assists. Both Tony Allen and Shane Battier were able to offer double digits in scoring to the fray, while there were a ton of other good contributions off of the bench to boot. This is a team that has just launched itself into the limelight, really for the first time in franchise history, and if this keeps up, there are going to be a lot of concerned teams in NBA betting action for the rest of the season.

The Thunder simply made too many mistakes to be able to beat the Grizzlies, even at home on Sunday. Russell Westbrook shot just 9-of-23 from the field, including missing at least a handful of shots right at the basket. The good news is that he’s getting to the hoop, but he really has to be able to finish when push comes to shove. There’s no shame in scoring 29 points, having eight boards, and six assists, but the seven turnovers and the horrible missed shots need to be corrected. Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka both had double-doubles, but it almost seems like both were relatively quiet. However, on the stat sheet, it says that both had absolutely massive games. Durant scored 33 points and had 11 boards, while Ibaka had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Beyond that though, no one else on the team scored more than three points. This just isn’t going to cut it, as there has to be at least a modest threat of someone else stepping up and knocking down a shot, particularly from long range to try to free up some defenders. Oklahoma City’s biggest lead of the game was just two points, and it only had 11 fast break points.
The oddsmakers are showing confidence in the Thunder, and so are we in Game 2. They have lined the hosts as the exact same favorites as they were in Game 1. We thought that it was justified then to take Oklahoma City, and we think the same right now as well.

NBA Playoffs Picks: Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers Game 1 Live

Two of the best teams in the Western Conference duke it out in NBA playoffs betting action in Game 1 of the conference semis at Staples Center, as the Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks.
This season was supposed to be a grand one for the Mavs, but the injury early in the season to Caron Butler really put a damper on the whole thing. Yet Dallas kept finding ways to win games, and now, we look up, and the team has 61 wins and is just eight victories away from the second trip to the NBA Finals in team history. It’s going to be all about Dirk Nowitzki in this series, as is usually the case for Dallas. At least statistically speaking, Nowitzki had an absolutely remarkable series against the Portland Trail Blazers over the course of the last two weeks. He accounted for 27.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, and he shot 88.9 percent from the foul line as well. However, especially in that Game 4 in which the team blew that huge lead at the Rose Garden, Nowitzki took a lot of heat for the team’s shortcomings. He is looked at as the reason why the Mavericks have never been able to finish the deal and win a championship, and in spite of the fact what other stars like Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, and the likes do, it’s all going to be on Dirk’s shoulders.
This is the same type of pressure that is sitting on the shoulders of Kobe Bryant. The difference is that Bryant has a fistful of rings, and he is trying to make it so Head Coach Phil Jackson goes out a winner from Tinseltown. Scary as it was, Bryant really didn’t play all that well against the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the playoffs, accounting for just 22.5 points per game on 43.7 percent shooting from the field. We know that we are going to see a heck of a lot better than that from the future Hall of Famer in this series, and if he starts to take over a game, he can really do it all. Pau Gasol is the one that really needs to step up if he wants to be the Yin to Kobe’s Yang. Gasol only averaged 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the first round of the postseason, and though the competition is getting tougher, his numbers need to get better. We’re talking about a man that averaged a double-double per game this year that had just one double-double in five games in the first round of the postseason. The good news is that Andrew Bynum stepped up and averaged 15.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, and he even was the leader in points in a crucial Game 2 after a Game 1 defeat.

LA is favored by a touchdown in this game for a good reason. In the most recent meeting between these two teams, the Lakers dropped Dallas 110-82 in that game here at Staples Center, and at least in Game 1, we expect to see a very, very similar result on Monday night.

Atlanta made it to this point in the playoffs by getting some timely shooting from its guards, namely Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford. These two averaged nearly 40 points per game between them, and it seemed like every single time there was a big shot that needed to be made, one of these two were able to come up with it against the Magic. The defense played incredibly well in the first round, particularly on the perimeter, but Head Coach Larry Drew knows that a better job has to be done on the inside on the defensive side of the ball to have any shot at pulling an upset in this series in the Windy City. Dwight Howard had a few games in which he went absolutely bananas for the Magic in Round 1, and if this proves to be the case once again with the bigs of the Bulls, the Hawks might as well just have their wings clipped now. It’s also really bad news that Kirk Hinrich isn’t likely to be playing in Game 1. He missed the end of Game 6 against Orlando with a hamstring injury suffered in that game, and the Magic almost came back from a huge deficit late on without him on the court.
Chicago has its issues as well, as it could be without Carlos Boozer in this first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Boozer ended up in a position where he played just 16 minutes against the Indiana Pacers in the decisive Game 5, as he had to come off of the court thanks to a toe injury that was later classified as turf toe. Boozer hopes to get back on the court, but Head Coach Tom Thibodeau intends to be rather cautious, knowing that there could still be a solid 20 games to play in the playoffs. He still has a ton of bigs at his disposal, including Taj Gibson, Kurt Thomas, and Omer Asik that could all play slightly bigger roles to pick up the slack for Boozer. Of course, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah averaged 30.6 points and 17.8 rebounds per game between them as well in the starting lineup, and it also helped that Derrick Rose chipped in 4.6 boards and 1.2 blocks per game to the mix as well. He only shot 37.1 percent from the floor, but he was good for 27.6 points per game against the Pacers.
There’s just too much going for Chicago to be beaten in this series, and beaten in Game 1. Expect the Bulls to run out of the blocks to a sizeable lead early and to never look back. The Hawks will be downed in NBA playoffs betting action on Monday.

The slugfest in the Eastern Conference Semifinals gets underway on Sunday afternoon in South Beach, and we’re set to make our Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat pick in NBA betting action for Game 1.
It’s all about the defense and the stars for the Celtics. They really did a fantastic job against the New York Knicks, holding them to just 90.8 points per game in their first round series, right around their series average for the campaign. We know that things slacked offensively in Games 1 and 2, but all of a sudden, the bigs really kicked into gear in Game 3 to get things going. In that Game 3, Paul Pierce scored 38 points, Ray Allen scored 32 points, and Rajon Rondo had a triple-double, including logging 20 assists, the most in the playoffs to date for any team. Pierce and Allen both averaged right around 22 points per game for the series, and as we have seen in the past, both can drop tremendous numbers on the opposition. Rondo is putting up 19.0 points, 12.0 assists, and 7.2 rebounds per game. Kevin Garnett has been the forgotten man in the bunch, but if the Heat can’t get anything going on the inside either, he’ll have a huge series. KG was good for a double-double in three of his four games, and he only came up one point short in Game 3.
When you’re talking about the Heat, you’re talking about a team that doesn’t historically do all that well against some of the best teams in the bunch. Sure, they did win that crucial fourth game against Boston in the regular season that earned home court advantage here in this series, but they also lost three games to the Chicago Bulls and two to the Dallas Mavericks in addition to the other three to the C’s. LeBron James has a well documented poor postseason history, at least in terms of wins and losses, though he is certainly a decorated stat sheet stuffer. The question for LBJ is whether he can lead a team with some other legitimate star power on it to the Promised Land, something that he couldn’t do with essentially a team full of stiffs in Cleveland. James averaged 24.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in the first round of the playoffs. His running mate, Dwyane Wade had 22.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists against the Philadelphia 6ers as well. Chris Bosh, another man that has never really been all that far in the second season, averaged just under 20 and 10 per game.

NBA Playoffs Picks: San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies Game 6 Predictions & Preview

The San Antonio Spurs successfully staved off elimination once in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, but now, they have their toughest task of the playoffs to date: Beat the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum for the first time in the postseason to save their season.
San Antonio truly is lucky just to be in this series at this point, as it very easily could have been beaten by the Grizz in Game 5 both in regulation and in overtime on Wednesday. The good news is that Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili really came to play on the same night for one of the first times in this series, and as they both proved in the OT period, when they’re both on, this is a team that is a very, very difficult one to stop. Parker had 24 points with nine assists on the night, while Ginobili netted 33 points to go with six boards and six assists. He also had four steals, though the Argentine had six turnovers to lead the team in that dubious distinction as well. Tim Duncan didn’t have a great shooting night, going just 5-of-13 from the floor, but he did have 13 points and 12 rebounds for yet another playoff double-double. George Hill came off of the bench to score 12 points, but there were solid contributions from Matt Bonner, Tiago Splitter, and Gary Neal as well.
Memphis has absolutely proven that it belongs here in the playoffs and that it can compete with the top seed in the West, and should it either win this game or Game 7 back at the AT&T Center, it will become the fourth No. 8 seed in the history of NBA betting action to knock off a No. 1. Game 5 really was a missed opportunity, though, as Memphis led for a good chunk of the second half thanks to a 26-15 third quarter. Zach Randolph arguably had the best game of his postseason career, shooting 10-of-17 from the floor for 26 points with 11 boards and six assists, while Marc Gasol wasn’t all that far behind with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Sam Young had a nice shooting day, going 7-of-12, and he had 18 points and six rebounds. Mike Conley had another solid outing as well, proving that he was most certainly worth the high draft choice a few seasons ago. Conley had 20 points, five boards, and five helpers along with two of the 12 steals that the Grizz had on the night. Memphis forced 15 turnovers in total and had 50 of the 95 rebounds in the game.

Say goodnight to the top seed in the West. Memphis has been good… In fact, very, very good. The Grizzlies really might be the better team in this series, and our NBA playoffs picks call for them to dismiss the Spurs on Friday night once and for all.
