Thanksgiving weekend’s lineup of college football rivalries continues Saturday when the No. 14 ranked Florida State Seminoles visit the No. 9 ranked Florida Gators at the Swamp in Gainesville.
Florida has played its way to being considered for one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff. Standing in its way however are the Florida State Seminoles and a few unimpressive performances the past three games.
However, if Florida can find its top form on both offense and defense the next two weeks, the CFP selection committee will have to take a long look at the Gators.
The Gators barely beat Florida Atlantic last week 20-14 but could play Alabama in the title game of the SEC. The Gators however have scored just 53 points the past 3 games on offense while turning the ball over 8 times.
The Gators defense must stop Florida State’s top rusher Dalvin Cook. The tailback has 1,475 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns of which 16 were on the ground.
Over the past four games, FSU quarterback Sean Maguire has 7 touchdown passes and last week helped them beat a weaker opponent in Chattanooga. The Seminoles have three receivers with 45 or more receptions and each has over 515 yards receiving.
Florida will likely be missing two starting defensive ends as Alex McCalister is battling an ankle injury and Jordan Sherit has a hamstring problem.
Treon Harris the Florida starting quarterback must improve his completion percentage, while Kelvin Taylor at running back must be a bigger factor the next two weeks.
Florida’s defense is No. 3 in the nation in points allowed at 14.5 a game.
Florida State is 4-1 SU in its past 5 games versus Florida, but the Gators have the overall leads in this series at 34-23-2.
The UNDER has cashed in each of the past 5 games between the two teams played in Gainesville and in 5 of the past 6 games between the two overall.
