Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo saw his scoring run end after eight goals in his previous two matches but Madrid went on to win 1-0 win over Granada and take the overnight lead of the Spanish league on Saturday. Granda’s played Solid defense all day and got superior goalkeeping from Andres Fernandez but allowed a goal by Karim Benzema, that allowed Madrid to escape with the 1-0 win. It was the fourth goal in as many games for Benzema.
”We started with a chance but they had theirs as well,” said Madrid defender Marcelo. ”The first half was very difficult, but we eventually got the goal and defended hard to get the win.”
Madrid was without Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos after both were hurt in a 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League
Madrid had won it’s three previous matches by combined score of 15-0. Ronaldo has scored 322 goals in 304 matches and was looking to surpass Raul Gonzalez Blanco’s 323-goal record despite having played over 400 games fewer than the Spanish legend. It os only a matter of time, but today was not the day.
“I am happy, it is a proud moment for me to be in this position,” Ronaldo said after netting his 33rd hat-trick for the club against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.
