TSN is the ESPN of Canada. They have the rights to most of the sporting events along with Sportsnet. TSN has great coverage of many different sports but they are well known for their NHL coverage. TSN has been very stagnant about offering options to Canadians and others around the world to watch their content. But, they have recently gone the way of other networks and started offering up their content online. Let’s take a look at the different ways that you can watch TSN anywhere online.
If you have a cable subscription, and yes I know that many of us have gone away from cable subscriptions, you can access TSN Go from anywhere in Canada. TSN Go is an app that you can download on almost any smart device and the interface works great. You can also access TSN Go from TSN’s home page and click on the tab at the top of the page that says live.
After you download the app or go through TSN’s website, you will be directed to sign into your cable provider. After you log in with your cable provider you will be able to watch TSN live from anywhere that you choose! If you are a cord cutter like me, go ask your parents, a friend, a co-worker and bribe them with some Tim Hortons donuts to get them to give up their cable login information.
TSN Direct is TSN’s answer to the new threat of streaming services in Canada. A streaming service called DAZN is trying to take market share away from TSN and Sportsnet. This year TSN decided to release their own streaming service to compete with DAZN and they followed in the steps of other historic channels like HBO. TSN Direct is a rather pricey purchase and it has a high monthly bill. The service costs $25 Canadian Dollars a month but they also offer a prepaid 6 month plan where you pay $125 every 6 months so you save $25 if you go with that plan but you have to pay upfront which is unfortunate. I think that TSN was too ambitious with their price as there are many streaming services in the United States that cost just as much for a whole slew of channels. We will see if this move pays off for them long term as the service is only a few months old at this point.
But, if you do not live in the United States there is no easy way to access TSN Direct. But, there is a workaround where you can access TSN Direct online anywhere that you live. All you have to do is use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) in order to trick TSN into thinking that you are in Canada. Here are the steps to use a VPN:
- Buy a subscription to a VPN service such as ExpressVPN. There are several reliable VPN services and they usually cost around $10 a month.
- Download the app from the VPN service on your device and set up a log in.
- Log into your VPN and connect to an IP Address in Canada.
- Download the TSN Direct service app or go to the TSN website and sign up for TSN Direct
- Enjoy TSN Direct!
