Woods, Mickelson at US Ryder Cup team

Tiger Woods continued his remarkable comeback at the PGA Championship, and the golf club is wondering whether he is a lock to be a participant on the Ryder Cup team.

Woods was rated 11th in the final U. S. Ryder Cup ranks with the top eight players receiving automatic bids to the group. The final four places will be chosen by captain Jim Furyk. Even though many assume Woods will be a player on the team — not only one of the five vice-captains — that the move will not be official until the announcement is made by Furyk.

On Monday, Furyk was requested by Mark Rolfing of the Golf Channel when there were any way Tiger would not be on the group if he’s healthy. His response strongly hinted that Woods will be about the team as a player, although furyk danced around the issue wouldn’t say yes.”I am so excited to see him playing well, competing,” Furyk said. “I imply that front-nine [at the PGA Championship], he willed himself into some 32, 3-under par, and kept himself in that golf championship. I will leave you with this. I am excited about the way he’s playing.

We’ve had conversations, and I think I must have seen it coming since he foreshadowed everything . He had been foreshadowing that in January, and that I don’t believe I picked up on the hint. I think Tiger knew his game was in good form and I think he knew he was going to have a fantastic season.”
As the Golf Channel analysts said after the interview, Furyk”does not have a very good poker face.”
To put it differently, Tiger will play at the Ryder Cup.

Here are the eight players who are on the team now.

1. Brooks Koepka

2. Dustin Johnson

3. Justin Thomas

4. Patrick Reed

5. Bubba Watson

6. Jordan Spieth

7. Rickie Fowler

8. Webb Simpson

And here are the eight players who just missed the cut. Presumably, the four captain’s selections would come from this group with most and Phil Mickelson will take two of those spots.

Bryson DeChambeau (ranked 9th in closing U.S. Ryder Cup standings)

Phil Mickelson (10th)

Tiger Woods (11th)

Xander Schauffele (12th)

Matt Kuchar (13th)

Kevin Kisner (14th)

Tony Finau (15th)

Kyle Stanley (16th)
